Frequently Asked Questions and Policies

"The liners work great, even when traveling. I stack one or two on my pad, and switch them out as needed. Then I put the used liners in a plastic bag and rinse them out and wash them when I get home." Lexi, TX

How do I care for my Moon Loon Pads? After using your pad, soak or rinse it in cold water before either machine washing on warm cycle or handwashing. You can tumble dry medium or line dry your pads. Soaking pads in a bucket (anything non-rust) works well. Change water once a day minimum. Some women add a cleaning agent such as tea tree oil or just regular laundry soap in the soaking process, but this is optional.

How often do I change my cloth pads? As often as you would a disposable pad. You can switch out the used liner for a fresh one without changing the bottom part of pad, or change the whole pad.

How many do I need? It depends on your flow. Look at our flow guidelines next to our pads for reference. You can try our introductory kit to start, or purchase a pad or two to begin with, alternating with disposables until you get a sense of the needs of your cycle.

How do I use Moon Loon Pads? See our How-to-Use Guide.

Are reusable pads comfortable and do they show through clothing? Yes, they are comfortable, and no, they do not show through! Moon Loon Pads' style of pads are thin and flexible, so you can feel confident and comfortable going out.

"Using cloth pads has changed my experience of getting my period, emotionally and physically. And Moon Loon Pads are so comfortable, too. Thank you for making them!" Ally, CA

What makes Moon Loon Pads unique from other cloth pads? The Easy On-Off Replaceable Liner is probably the most unique feature of Moon Loon Pads because of its flexibility in terms of function. Because of the unique construction of our pads, you'll flow only on the liner, so they can be changed as often as needed for you to feel fresh and secure. The soft organic fleece makes them extra comfortable as well, and even if you order a colored flannel style of pad, only the organic fleece touches your skin, another unique aspect of Moon Loon Pads!

What about refunds? We accept refunds within 60 days from date of purchase. If buying from us for the first time, please try just one pad to see how you like it. If you find you wish to return, please keep used pad and return the rest of your order.

How do I travel with washable cloth pads? The best way is to bring along a plastic Ziploc bag during your cycle. When you need to change pads or top liners, place them into the bag and seal until you get home or to hotel and can rinse out and either handwash or wait to wash until you get home. Do not use a public Laundromat for washing.

"I keep a bucket in my bathroom filled with cold water and throw my pads in there during my cycle. Then I wash them all once my cycle's over. It's so much easier than I'd imagined. And I love it! There's no odor like there was with disposables, either." Sandra, MA

What are Moon Loon Pads made of? The top two absorbent layers are 100% organic soft fleece, followed by a layer of 100% cotton flannel or 100% organic flannel. All of our liners are made of two layers of 100% organic fleece.

Do they work well? Yes. If your pad feels wet but you don’t want to change the entire pad, use a liner and switch it out as needed. It’s a matter of trying them out and seeing what works best for you in terms of timing and number of liners, etc.

What about if I have heavy flow or for when I sleep – can I use cloth pads? Yes, Moon Loon Pads work well for heavy flow and are very comfortable for sleeping. Our 12-inch maxi pad is made for heavy flow, as well as for sleeping. Our liners are thin but very absorbent, and most of our customers find one liner is plenty of protection.

"I have very heavy flow. I use two liners on top for my first couple of days, and have never had a problem. Honestly, I don't even need the second liner - I've never soaked through the first one. They're so much more comfortable than disposables!" Mikala, NY

Are Moon Loon Pads suitable for pregnancy and postpartum use? Yes, Moms love Moon Loon Pads! During her pregnancy, a woman may experience an increase in discharge, and our pantyliners work very well for this. During postpartum, when the perineum is especially sensitive, Moon Loon Pads are a gentle and natural alternative to disposable pads the hospital and pharmacy provide.

Are Moon Loon Pads sanitary? Yes. They are as sanitary as your underwear. Menstrual blood is the blood of life and washing your pads after using them cleans them well. Moon Loon Pads are menstrual pads, and any minimal stains are not harmful in any way. If you're very concerned about staining there are many effective non-chlorine based cleaning products available at your local natural foods store (using chlorine bleach or fabric softeners will make the pads less absorbent).

How long will they last? They are made to last for years; how often you update your cloth pads is a personal preference.
